The queen is back and she is ready to start snatching wigs and awards. Christina Aguilera returns with what seems to be the official lead single off her upcoming untitled album. “Your Body” is a vulgar, explicit, and sexy track baring resemblance to Aguilera’s previous lead single “Not Myself Tonight.” The singer is not in the mood for small talk, she is ready to get down to business. Can’t please her? Don’t worry, she is certainly capable of taking care of herself.
“Your Body” is a full-fledge, dance floor ready, sweat-pouring pop song that should get everybody in the clubs on the feet, whipping their hair back and forth. I have always stated that Christina’s Dirrty era was fun and underappreciated. This new track would have fit in perfectly with the music she was creating at that time. She is not holding anything back, rather giving the start to a whole new music experience everything she has.
The lyrics may be R rated, but the track still contains the one key element that has made Aguilera a true diva in the eyes of every critic and fan: her powerhouse vocals. Let’s stop lying to ourselves. Christina has the best voice of our generation and will go down as one of the greatest singers of all time. No matter what the subject matter, no matter the decade, dance anthem or heartfelt ballad, Christina is able to hit any and every note, taking a decent song and breathing life back into it. I could listen to her singing the phonebook for hours.
My small problem with the song however is in terms of commercial success. I absolutely love everything about the new single, but I do not know how radio will handle this offering. It is not very radio-friendly with lyrics as bold as “all I wanna do is fuck your body, tonight’s your lucky night I know you want it.” To be honest, I am not really looking forward to listening to the PG version when I am riding around town or getting ready for a night out. The lead single is proof that Aguilera is back, stronger than ever, ready to reclaim her rightful spot on the top of all the charts.
The Voice is set to premiere in the next few days. I will not be surprised if the release of “Your Body” is tied in with the show’s premiere. Expect an official release date pretty soon and a music video, already in the works, to make its world premiere on one of the results episodes. Aguilera is no dummy. There is why she agreed to be on the show, to have a platform to help her comeback just like J.Lo. Never underestimate a diva in the making since the late 90s. That really was the best decade for music anyway right?
