A little wet

The Roosevelt Canal overflowing its banks

This year has been one of the wetter ones in recent memory.  The average annual rainfall for Phoenix is around 7 inches.  We had 3 inches in a seven hour period last night, which is enough to put the weather on the headlines.  This kind of storm happens every six or seven years here, although not to this extent.  The record for daily rainfall in Phoenix was 2.91 inches in 1933.  It's now 2.96 and the day's not over yet...  Even some of the interstates got flooded.

Fortunately, the drainage in our area is pretty good.  The yard gets to be a mess and the street usually acquires some mud but the houses mostly stay dry.  This was not always the case in this neighborhood, but over the years the area has been improved so run off is much better controlled.  Personally I'm a little blasé about the rain, but the Missus gets a bit stressed have lived through major floods of the Guadalupe River in Texas.  This is nothing like one of those.
