Welcome to September's edition of 'Through The Garden Gate'. I am as usual joining Sarah for this monthly pleasure. Do click here to see her garden.
I have a confession to make. Buying my last packet of cosmos seeds was done far too speedily. Neglectfully not reading the size my seeds were going to grow to. My September garden is all about these gigantic monsters. Oh they have done so well this year and tower over my borders hiding smaller specimens. If I had been aware they would not have been planted so far forward. Lesson learnt, at least the flowers are gorgeous.
Taking my camera around this week I’m making a mental list of jobs that need doing. Lots of pruning obviously and thoughts of what will do well next year. Seeds I will buy carefully, and repositioning of plants.
During the next few weeks plans are afoot to extend the veggie patch with a dividing path to ease access. The contortions that I go through just to pick fruit. The water butt is also going to be moved right next to the veggie patch. Hopefully making life easier.
The eucalyptus has grown so well this summer. It’s not supposed to grow tall but I will prune sooner rather than later if it starts to get too leggy. It certainly looks good next to the fuchsia which is still blooming profusely.
The grasses at this time of year are definitely the star of the garden, especially in low light.
Another patch of Jersey lilies is in full bloom in the apple tree border. We seem to have staggered their flowering with at least three different lots starting in early August.
Dahlias are now beginning to fade although a few blooms cling on, keeping the garden colour going. The begonia is the star of the front garden.
The next few weeks will definitely be a busy time. I wonder how all your gardens are doing? Have you had any great successes this year?
